Route 1

Scenario 1

• Route 1 currently operates with three variants (Route 1, Route 1A, and Route 1B). This arrangement is complicated and requires passengers to know three separate schedules. In Scenario 1, Route 1 would be simplified and operate with one consistent alignment during weekdays, evenings, and Sundays.

• Route 1 would be shortened to provide consistent weekday and Saturday 30-minute frequency on the entire alignment.  Service on Route 1 north of Carver Street would be removed.  Evening and Sunday service would remain hourly.
• Service on Hillandale Road north of Carver Street would still be available on a restructured Route 4, and transfers to Horton Road and North Durham would be possible to Route 4. However, there would no longer be service on Guess Road between Carver Street and Horton Road, meaning that some existing patrons would need to walk up to a half mile to access the revised service.

Scenario 2

• Route 1 currently operates with three variants (Route 1, Route 1A, and Route 1B), which requires passengers to know three separate schedules. In Scenario 2, Route 1 would be simplified and operate with one consistent alignment during weekdays, evenings, and Sundays.
• Route 1 would be restructured to provide bi-directional service between Northgate Mall, Northpoint Shopping Center, and the Museum of Life and Science and would no longer have loops.   Route 1 would have a consistent weekday and Saturday 30-minute frequency along the entire alignment.   Evening and Sunday service would remain hourly.
• Route 1 would no longer serve Hillandale Road or Guess Road north of North Pointe Drive.  A new Route 16 would continue to provide service on Hillandale Road, but no new service is proposed for Guess Road.  Existing Guess Road patrons would have to walk up to a mile to access Route 1 service.  Shorter walks may be possible to Hillandale Road.
