Route 4
Scenario 1
- Route 4 is currently the most direct route between North Duke Crossing, Duke Regional Memorial Hospital, and Durham Station.
- In Scenario 1, service on Route 4 would be extended east from North Duke Crossing to Horton Road, Hillandale Road, and Duke University. It would also serve the Crest Street neighborhood, but would no longer directly serve the Duke Regional Hospital or North Duke Street between Horton Road and Carver Street.
- The Route 4 extension would replace Route 9 service along Horton Road and replace Routes 1 and 1B service along Hillandale Road. Route 4 would deviate to serve Riverside High School during school bell times only.
- Residents in the apartments along Horton Road would have more direct service to Durham Station, reducing trip times by up to 15 minutes. In addition, North Durham residents would have the opportunity to travel to Duke University/VA Hospital directly, without a transfer downtown.
Scenario 2
- Route 4 is currently the most direct route between North Duke Crossing, Duke Regional Memorial Hospital, and Durham Station.
- In order to improve route reliability, Route 4 would no longer directly serve Duke Regional Hospital. Access to the Hospital would shift to North Roxboro Street, and would be 200 feet away from the existing Hospital stop.
