SUN Trail Alignment Studies
The Sarasota/Manatee MPO is working on two trail studies: the Manatee Trail Alignment Study and the Sarasota Trail Alignment Study. These planning studies focus on developing a network of biking and walking trails that will connect to schools, parks, transit stops, essential services, local attractions, and other key destinations.
Adopted Alignments
On May 22, 2023, the MPO Board unanimously voted to ADOPT the recommended alignment alternatives for each study area. The alignments are now eligible for the SUN Trail funding through FDOT, and federal funds through the MPO process. The maps below show the trail alignments for each study area. Manatee Study:
From west to east: The alignment begins at the intersection of Manatee Avenue and 75th St W. It then heads south along Village Green Pkwy, east along 11th Ave W to 51st St W. It heads north on 51st St, turning east on 9th Ave to Ballard Park Dr. The alignment then goes north on Ballard Park to 17th St, then east on 8th Ave and north 15th St to 1st Ave W where it connect to the Riverwalk.
Sarasota Study:
From west to east: This alignment begins at the Legacy Trail and heads east/north in easements through the Eastwood subdivision to Fruitville Rd. After crossing Fruitville Rd, the recommended alignment follows the Circus Trail to Bobby Jones Golf Course. The trail goes through Bobby Jones Golf Course and the 17th Street Regional Parks, east on 17th St to Honore, then up to Nathan Benderson and across I-75 to Lakewood Ranch Blvd and along Blue Lake Rd to Lorraine Rd.
