Battery Electric Bus Pilot Program
Battery Electric Bus Pilot Program
CATS is launching a pilot program in partnership with eTransEnergy, a subsidiary of Duke Energy to test the performance of battery electric buses (BEB) and accompanying charging infrastructure across the greater metropolitan Charlotte area. Through this program, CATS and eTransEnergy will collect data and evaluate vehicle performance while operating the electric bus fleet across the regional transit system in preparation for zero emission technologies.
Milestones:
December 2021 - CATS received first battery electric bus.
April 2022 – The pilot program begins.
October 2023 - Estimated completion of the pilot program.
The BEB pilot program supports our Sustainable and Resilient Charlotte Resolution and our Strategic Energy Action Plan (SEAP) which strives to have city fleet and facilities be fueled by 100 percent zero-carbon sources by 2030 and sets a community-wide goal for Charlotte to become a low carbon city by 2050.
