SR16 (East Broad Street) at SR317 (Hamilton Road) Intersection Improvements (PID 105768)
The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) and the City of Whitehall propose to improve safety and reduce congestion at the intersection of East Broad Street and Hamilton Road. The proposed project will add capacity and provide more dedicated turn lanes. Some driveways near the intersection are proposed to be closed and medians added to control turn movements. This will reduce delays and improve operation of the intersection during peak travel times. Construction is expected to begin in Spring 2023 and last approximately 8 months. The intersection will remain open throughout construction and access to all adjacent properties will be maintained. Additional information can be found in the Documents section below.
The purpose of the project is to improve safety and reduce congestion
Broad Street serves approximately 25,000 vehicles per day and Hamilton Road serves just over 20,000 vehicles per day. The intersection is highly congested and there are multiple access points to adjacent properties very close to the intersection. This has led to a high percentage of rear-end, angle, and left-turn type crashes.
- 124 total vehicle crashes reported at this intersection from 2015 through 2017
- #23 on the ODOT Highway Safety Improvement Program 2018 list for Urban Intersections
- #36 on the MORPC high crash intersection list for 2017
- Included on Governor DeWine’s 150 Intersection Safety List
