Bike/Ped Count 2023 Registration

At this time, all volunteer positions have been filled. If you are interested in signing up to volunteer or being placed on a waitlist, please reach out directly to Anna Sexton, Urban Planner at asexton@ashevillenc.gov.

The City is seeking volunteers to help gather data on bicycle and pedestrian volumes throughout Asheville. When we know how many people are walking and bicycling, we are better prepared to provide facilities to support those activities. Volunteers will count non-motorized users of our streets at a number of specific locations on the following dates:

Tuesday September 12th
Wednesday September 13th
Thursday September 14th
Saturday September 16th (*a.m. only)

The specific weekday you choose to count is up to you. Counts will occur from 5-7 p.m. There will also be a few sites available from 7-9 a.m. on the above weekdays and on Saturday September 16th from 9-11 a.m.

After signing up, you will receive a confirmation email within several days. City staff will follow up to provide you with your site assignment, instructions for counting, and tips on how to complete a successful count.

Volunteers are the backbone of this effort, and we are grateful for your willingness to support i! The Flying Bike is generously offering a free annual membership to one randomly selected volunteer. Volunteers that successfully complete their count shift will be eligible for the drawing. Weekday counts will take place on either Tuesday 9/12, Wednesday 9/13, or Thursday 9/14 (you can pick which evening works best for you). Weekend counts will take place on Saturday 9/16.

Weekday evening (majority of the count sites), 5-7pm

Weekday morning (limited selection), 7-9am

Saturday morning (limited selection), 9-11am
