The deparment is considering amending rules in WAC 220-412-100 for landowner hunting permits.
Purpose of the proposal and its anticipated effects, including any changes in existing rules: There are two reasons in support of this rule project, first one related to the Buckrun landowner hunting permit (LHP) and the second one related to the Columbia Plateau Wildlife Management Association (CPWMA) LHP:
- The Buckrun LHP sold 7,880 acres retaining 30,213 acres. This is a 20% reduction of acreage. WDFW would like to decrease the number of deer permits by 20%. This an overall reduction of 15 permits or 60 to 45. Even with the reduction of 20%, this still allows for hunting opportunities on 30,213 acres of private land.
- CPWMA LHP has dissolved. This will result in the loss of 19 elk permits. WDFW is currently working with the three landowners who participated in this program through CPWMA to keep the 3,877 acres in one of the WDFW hunting access programs.
