Improving the affordability of King County’s wastewater capacity charge
Improving the affordability of King County’s wastewater capacity charge
King County wants your input on making the wastewater capacity charge more affordable
We want to hear from you. Please fill out the survey below by April 30, 2019.
King County Wastewater Treatment Division (WTD) is interested in better serving low-income customers and improving the affordability of wastewater services. WTD levies a 15-year, monthly charge for new connections to the wastewater system. We call it a capacity charge. It helps WTD pay for the system of sewer pipes, treatment plants and other wastewater facilities that serve a growing regional customer base.
We recently completed a study to help us find ways the capacity charge program can better address affordability challenges. Based on the report, the County has come up with four recommendations. We want to hear from you on these recommendations.

Your input is valuable. WTD will share it with elected officials when they consider the recommendations this spring. WTD will also use it when implementing changes later this year. If you have questions about the capacity charge affordability study, please contact Eunice Lee, King County Wastewater Treatment Division Community Services, at elee@kingcounty.gov or 206-263-1614.
New buildings that connect to the sewer system pay the capacity charge.
