Charlotte will add approximately 325,000 people between now and 2040. That's equal to about 130,000 new households. At the same time, the city will add a little over 205,000 new jobs. Throughout the first phase of the Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan process, the community has indicated that they want to ensure future growth benefits all people and that future investments address existing gaps and inequalities.

The Charlotte Future 2040 Comprehensive Plan will guide the city's growth - where should all of these new households and jobs go? To simplify this question, the city has been broken up into five Districts: North, South, East, West, and Central.
