2020/21 - 2024/25 Transportation Improvement Program
The Sarasota/Manatee Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is the regional transportation planning entity within Sarasota and Manatee Counties, including the Sarasota-Bradenton Urbanized Area (UZA). MPOs are established by state and federal laws and through interlocal agreements to provide a process for local governments within a Transportation Management Area (TMA) to coordinate with the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), and the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). A TMA is an urbanized area with a population of over 200,000 as determined by the latest decennial census.
The MPO develops the Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) annually in accordance with state and federal requirements, and the current Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) MPO Program Management Handbook. The TIP is submitted to federal and state review agencies according to the dates, processes, and agencies described in the handbook. The MPO planning process is continuing, comprehensive, and cooperative.
