ACC Boulevard Survey
ACC Boulevard Survey
This survey is part of a safety effort for ACC Blvd from Brier Creek Parkway to Mt. Herman Road in response to concerns expressed by several citizens and the Sentry Management HOA following a crash in November 2020. The crash occurred when a vehicle travelling northbound on ACC Blvd ran off the road, striking one of the houses that front ACC Boulevard just south of the intersection with Courtney Estates Drive.
As follow up, City staff conducted a 5-year crash study to determine whether a correctable crash pattern exists. The crash study identified crashes that (1) involved speeds in excess of the speed limit, (2) involved run off the road crashes, and (3) involved a pedestrian, including the pedestrian fatality that occurred at the ACC Boulevard/Courtney Estates Drive intersection.
With an NCDOT project currently planned to signalize the intersection of ACC Boulevard and Courtney Estates Drive, city staff is in the process of exploring tools to alleviate the crash issue along this corridor. These efforts have largely centered on a reduction of travel lanes, also known as a road diet. Road diets have been shown to be an effective crash reduction tool and long-term plans for this segment of ACC Boulevard already call for a 3-lane cross-section with parallel parking versus the existing 5-lane cross-section.
We are asking residents of ACC Blvd. to complete this short survey in order to help staff to make informed decisions regarding improvments that could be incorporated into a potential future project.
Survey will close on Friday, June 11.
