Capital Boulevard North Design Directions Survey
Capital Boulevard North Design Directions Survey
Capital Boulevard North Design Directions Survey
Introduction
During the Capital Boulevard North Corridor Study, the City asked residents to state their goals for making Capital Boulevard better in the future. From that feedback, we defined three primary goals:
- Making driving safer and easier
- Making walking safer and more comfortable
- Improving the appearance of the street
The City has created a detailed plan for changing the street and intersection in this area. You can learn about that plan and how it can make driving safer and easier by reviewing this document. (Warning: File download will use a large amount of data if using cellular service.)
With this survey, we want to ask you if some of these changes will help you feel more comfortable walking along and across Capital Boulevard. We also want to know if you think they will make the area better looking.
Pedestrian Comfort
The proposed plan for Capital Boulevard North would add twelve-foot wide sidewalks along the local lanes of Capital Boulevard like the one shown in the top image above. Part of that width would be an area for trees to be planted.
Pedestrian Comfort
The transportation changes also include building pedestrian islands that allow you to avoid fast moving traffic and give you space to pause as you are crossing Capital Boulevard. This is shown in the image above.
Appearance
In the proposed plan, Capital Boulevard North would have a landscaped median similar to the one shown in the image above. This median would separate the regional lanes from local lanes of traffic.
Appearance
The plan encourages many of the streets near Capital Boulevard to be more like traditional shopping streets with many storefronts, windows, and entrances as you walk along them. Parking would be encouraged to be behind buildings so that it is convenient to walk into stores, workplaces, or apartment buildings.
