Towing Yards (TC-15-21)
Towing Yards (TC-15-21)
Towing Yards (TC-15-21): This text change proposes amending the Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) to allow Towing Yards for Vehicles in the IX district with a Special Use Permit and to modify the associated use standards. Read the full ordinance online.
Background information:
This text change was initiated by a member of the public and was authorized by the City Council at their September 7, 2021, meeting.
Current Rules:
Currently, Towing Yards are only allowed in the IH district with a Special Use Permit. Towing Yards are required to include transitional and street protective yards and cannot be used for the sale of vehicles or their parts. In addition, anyone Towing Yard must be at least one mile from any other Towing Yard.
Proposed Text Change:
Under the proposed changes, a Towing Yard would also be allowed in the IX district with a Special Use Permit and the spacing standard would be removed. Towing Yards could not be proximate to a Major Street and no vehicle surface areas or vehicle enclosures could be within 150 feet of a residential property or use (unless owned or occupied by the Towing Yard operator). All other existing use standards would remain in place.
Public Meeting Schedule:
This text change is scheduled for a Planning Commission meeting in November. The Commission may act on that date or refer to their Text Change Committee for further discussion. We will be collecting comments here through November 9. Comments after this date should be submitted directly to Keegan McDonald via email.
