Rhode Island Avenue Planning Study
Rhode Island Avenue Planning Study
About the Project:
The DC Office of Planning is undertaking the Rhode Island Avenue Planning Study focused on a portion of the corridor between 13th Street NE and Eastern Avenue NE. The study will explore the corridor's land use and market potential and examine opportunities for public realm improvements and strategies that better meet community needs and catalyze future investments.
Community Open House #1
Please join us at Art Enables on Saturday, March 1st from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm, to learn about the work in progress and share your perspective on the corridor's land use and market potential, opportunities for public realm improvements, and strategies that better meet community needs and catalyze future investments.
Background
Rhode Island Avenue has played a vital role as a gateway to the District since the city was first established, and thousands of people use the corridor every day. The corridor hosts a rich variety of local shops, businesses, residences, and community institutions that support the surrounding neighborhoods. However, the segment of the corridor east of 13th Street NE is experiencing high commercial vacancy rates, a challenging pedestrian environment, and other unmet community needs, including low access to fresh food. The Rhode Island Avenue Planning Study will lay the groundwork for potential future investment that can catalyze new economic development opportunities for the corridor and its communities to grow and thrive.
