The Human Relations Commission of Asheville (HRCA) carries out the following duties to include, but are not limited to:

  • Making policy recommendations to the City Council which promote and improve human relations and advance equity in the City
  •  Supporting the City’s Office of Equity and Inclusion
  •  Providing a forum where residents can raise issues and complaints relating to human relations in the City
  •  Engaging the community regarding the utilization of City-funded programs and policies for the promotion of human relations
  •  Promoting and improving human relations and advance equity in the following areas: public safety; educational, art and cultural opportunities; economic development; health and human services; and housing.

Regular Meeting Schedule

The Human Relations Commission of Asheville meets the third Thursday of each month at 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. on the First Floor Conference Room of Asheville City Hall (Located at 70 Court Plaza).

 

Upcoming Meeting

The next meeting of the Human Relations Commission is scheduled for August 27, 2020 @ 5:30pm.  While we are Staying Home and Staying Safe, the City of Asheville wants you to still have the opportunity to participate.

 

Voicemail

All voicemail public comment must be received by 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 26, 2020 by calling our Toll Free Public Input Line at 855-925-2801 Meeting Code: 9723. Before commenting, please state your name, City of residence, and the specific item.

 

All comments will be limited to 3 minutes per person per item.  Comments will be provided to the Human Relations Commission and will not be read at the meeting but will be posted on this page. Additionally, all comments must conform to the City boards & commission's rules of decorum.  Those comments that do not may be excluded.

Comments can also be submitted by emailing [email protected]. The Asheville Downtown Commission will receive the emailed comments electronically and the comments will be posted on this page, but they will not be read during the commission meeting.
