Eight Characteristics of a Great Main Street
Eight Characteristics of a Great Main Street
Zebulon's Downtown Associate Community (DAC) is asking for assistance in assessing "Eight Characteristics of a Great Main Street" against the current condition of Zebulon's Downtown. Residents, businesses, civic organizations, and churches are asked to participate by taking a Walk-About Survey. The purpose is to understand how the following characteristics contribute to a vibrant Downtown:
(1) Do Downtwn buildings, walkways, open space, and activity establish Zebulon's sense of place?
(2) Does the Downtown transportation network work locally as well as regionally?
(3) Do Downtown streets accomode all travel modes? Priority for pedestrians, motorists, cyclists, transit riders, and service functions.
(4) Does the Downtown draw diverse functions, attract investment, build creative fiscal stewardship, and support social activity?
(5) Does the Downtown provide an attractive and refreshing environment by working in concert with natural systems and addressing environmental concerns?
(6) Does the Downtown incorporate current thinking, best practices, advances in technology, and lessons learned from local and global examples?
(7) Does the Downtown alignment with the visions and goals of the community? Are there measurable goals to allow key elements of a project to be assessed over time?
(8) Do people who live, work, and play in Downtown feel a sense of ownership and expectations to effect change?
