| Christmas, New Year's Travel Upon Us
Plan Ahead With These Travel, Safety Tips
Christmas holiday travel will bring crowds back to Charlotte Douglas International Airport in waves starting this weekend. Peak travel days for local passengers are expected to be Saturday and Wednesday. Big travel days after Christmas are expected to be Dec. 26 and 27. In addition to local passengers, the Airport anticipates between 30,000 and 40,000 people a day will come through CLT to connect to other flights.
As American Airlines’ second largest hub, Charlotte Douglas is more crowded than many other airports. To ensure a smooth traveling experience, passengers should plan ahead and arrive two hours before a domestic flight and three hours if traveling internationally.
Charlotte Douglas and its partners are committed to providing a safe and healthy travel experience so that passengers have confidence to fly again. Various safety measures have been implemented and procedures updated throughout the COVID-19 pandemic. Here are some tips for your upcoming travels.

Face Coverings Required
Per Executive Orders from the N.C. governor, face coverings are required at CLT. Passengers who need a mask can pick one up at the TSA checkpoint podiums and at the Visitor Information Center in Baggage Claim on the lower level. All airlines also require a mask to board a flight. Police citations for failure to wear a face covering could carry a fine of up to $1,000.

Keep Your Distance
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend keeping at least 6 feet or more from people. In conjunction with wearing a face covering, the more distance you put between you and other people reduces the risk of spreading coronavirus through coughing, sneezing or close contact.

Wash, Sanitize Hands Frequently
Wash your hands with soap and water for a least 20 seconds to eliminate germs and help reduce the spread of coronavirus. Don’t touch your face and try to limit the things you do touch.
When soap and water are not readily available, the Airport has 60 hand sanitizing stations throughout the terminal.

Shop Local, Go Touchless
The majority of CLT’s concessions are open, with the exception of some bars. But it's still easy to support Airport concessions as they bounce back from the pandemic downturn in business. Find out whose open on our website.
Numerous Airport businesses carry South and North Carolina products, or are local to the region or are operated by local small businessmen and women. Look for the "CLT Local” signs and decals highlighting businesses and products that are original to the Carolinas.
Then go touchless. Several restaurants have made it easy to go touchless when ordering and paying. Menus have QR codes you can scan with your phone to order and pay online. Contactless ordering and payment is now available at Farmers Market (Concourses B and E), JCT Tequileria and JCT To-Go-Pronto (Atrium), Bad Daddy’s and Bad Daddy's To-Go (Concourse C), Whisky River and Whisky River To-Go (Concourse E), Cíao Gourmet Market (Concourse D) and Red Star Grab and Go (Concourse B).
