Ways to use and safely dispose of leaves
With the heavy leaf season upon on us, please do not push leaves to the curb or your neighbor’s yard. Leaf piles have the potential to block storm drains and camouflage potential hazards. Unfortunately, many local tree species drop their leaves right before our rainy season begins. Storm drains can only hold so much water, and even a little debris can disrupt water flows. It does not take much to obstruct the grates that prevent debris from entering the storm system. This can clog storm drains, reduce water flows and result in street flooding.…Click to continue

Be weary of recent EBT benefit scams
Many scams have been reported that are targeting recipients of EBT benefits. Beware of telephone and cellphone text scams that may affect you or loved ones. If you are an EBT cardholder and receive a text, call or email asking for your card number, pin or any personal info, do not provide it. Be aware of the recent scams: 1) Scams offering a “free government cellphone” or “free gift cards.” They ask for your personal information, card number and/or pin. 2) New benefit recipients are contacted by a “protection plan” company that says they are part of the state program. They ask for…Click to continue
