In 2020, the Town of Apex launched a program within the Water Resources department focused on sustainability. Below are a few goals set out by the Sustainability Program Coordinator, Megan Pendell and Sustainability Program Analyst, Val Mera.
The Sustainability Program Year 1 Goals:
- Create a Sustainability Action Plan
- Develop a baseline Greenhouse Gas Inventory
- Identify sustainable actions and adopt workloads of each Town department.
The Sustainability Team
Megan Pendell, who previously worked in our Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources department for 2 years, is proud to have Apex as her hometown. She graduated from NCSU with a B.S. Environmental Sciences and Minor in Applied Ecology, Focal Area Climate Change and Water Resources
Valeria (Val) Mera, was born and raised in Raleigh and recently graduated from NCSU with a B.S. in Political Science.

Anne Brock, from Building Inspections and Permits, celebrated her daughter Sydney's graduation from Apex High School. Sydney is now a freshman attending Appalachian State University!

Luther Forsythe, from Building Inspections and Permits, welcomed baby boy, Maddox Shepherd on August 28th, weighing 7 lbs 10 oz.

Howard Miles, from Fire, received his associate's degree in Applied Science Fire Protection Technology and was promoted to Fire Captain. He was also featured as an essential worker through Wake Tech Community College.
