CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2

November 2020 Update

PROJECT PROGRESS

  • The contractor is installing new traffic and pedestrian signals along the project corridor.

  • Final paving and roadwork have been completed, except for the French Street area and on Hawthorne Lane between 5th Street and Central Avenue. In isolated cases, the roadway may need repairs or repaving to meet standards and specifications.

  • The contractor has started installing shelters on platforms. Two platforms still to be built are the Sunnyside and 5th Street stops.

  • Trackwork is complete along Beatties Ford Road, Trade Street and Hawthorne Lane, with the exception of repairs at the intersection of 5th Street and Hawthorne Lane to correct alignment issues with the rail.

  • The sidewalks on both sides of Hawthorne Lane are open to pedestrians and bicyclists.

  • The city has worked with the contractor in exploring multiple options for completing work as quickly as possible. One option explored was a phased opening, where one portion of the alignment would begin testing earlier than the remaining portion. After careful review, it was determined that the time benefit from a phased opening was negligible. The city and contractor will continue looking for ways to accelerate the schedule as much as possible.

Regular construction hours typically are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Crews may be onsite preparing work before 7 a.m. Concrete pours will be during the night or in the early morning due to temperature restrictions.

We understand the overnight concrete work will affect the community. We will provide notification 48 hours in advance of night or early-morning work whenever possible. The dates for the work may change due to inclement weather; however, an updated notice will be sent. Please be aware that 48 hours' notice cannot be given for emergencies that require immediate attention. City staff will notify individuals directly if access to their driveway is affected by construction.

City inspectors will be at various locations checking quality control and adherence to project plans.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets as planned. When this occurs, City staff and contractors work to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Pedestrians should stay out of work zones. Those walking near work zones should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian signals where available and abide by detour signage.

Motorists traveling through work zones should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distances.
