Menlo Park resumes older adult services indoors on weekday mornings starting Monday, July 12, in a new, temporary location at the Arrillaga Family Recreation Center. Services include nutritionally balanced meals, health, recreational, social, cultural and educational programs and opportunities for socializing and fun. Door-to-door local transportation services are available to Menlo Park resident seniors. For more information and to register, contact Avideh Yaghmai-Samardar or visit the city website.

The Menlo Park Senior Center at 110 Terminal Ave. is closed during the construction of the Menlo Park Community Campus. This project includes development of a new multigenerational facility to incorporate the former Onetta Harris Community Center, Menlo Park Senior Center, Belle Haven Youth Center (child care), Belle Haven Pool and branch library. The new facility is scheduled to open in 2023.

Library overdue fines eliminated effective July 1

The City Council voted June 28 to eliminate library overdue fines effective July 1. Multiple studies have shown that library overdue fines disproportionately affect low-income residents and communities of color. Effective July 1, Menlo Park Library no longer charges overdue fines for items returned late, and existing overdue fines on account have been waived. Fees remain in effect for damaged or lost items, and overdue fines may still apply for items borrowed from other libraries outside of Menlo Park including LINK+ items.
