$36.1 million in Small Starts Funding Included in President Biden's FY2022 Budget for MetroRapid Expo and Pleasant Valley lines.
Project Connect’s proposed MetroRapid Expo and Pleasant Valley lines were included in President Biden’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2022 Budget request to Congress. The request proposed a total of $36.1 million combined for the lines ($17.8 million – Expo; $18.3 million – Pleasant Valley). The Expo and Pleasant Valley lines are considered Small Starts FAST Eligible Projects, which meet the following criteria:
The funds will assist the project team in moving forward with these proposed lines that provide the Austin community and visitors with additional routes to get around the city. Plans for MetroRapid include an all-electric expanded bus service, newly designed stations and improved customer experience.
You’ll see the team out and about late this summer providing information and gathering community input about the other two proposed MetroRapid lines included in the Project Connect program: Burnet to Menchaca and Oak Hill, and Gold Line.

Capital Metro Board – Austin FC Agreement Approved on May 24 for McKalla Station Implementation and Summer Service Changes Announced
The CapMetro board and Austin FC make a great team! On May 24, CapMetro approved a new agreement that will see Austin FC, the Major League Soccer (MLS) club, provide funding to help construct the proposed McKalla Station along the Red Line and build bus facilities near Q2 stadium.

The need for the McKalla Station is driven by robust development adjacent to the site, plus the increased ridership due to events at the stadium. Once completed in 2023, the station will also allow the Red Line to serve a larger transit market location with a bigger platform to accommodate the increased ridership in the area.
CapMetro recently announced the following two service changes to improve customer experience this summer and enhance service to Q2 Stadium on Austin FC game days:
1) MetroRail service, connecting downtown to North Austin and Leander, has resumed on Saturdays beginning at 10 a.m. and operates past midnight. In addition to Saturday MetroRail service, the Red Line will operate for Sunday and weeknight Austin FC games too! More information on MetroRail services can be found at capmetro.org/redline.
2) CapMetro is also providing more ways to get to Q2 Stadium on Austin FC game days, including MetroBus and MetroRapid service. Please visit CapMetro’s Austin FC page for more information on game day services and schedule details.

Another Step Forward for Project Connect: Entry into Project Development Letter for Orange and Blue Lines Submitted to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA)
It has been a busy seven months since last November’s vote moving the funding of Project Connect forward. Adding to the significant milestones we have reached in less than a year since local approval of Project Connect, President and CEO of Capital Metro Randy Clarke signed letters requesting the Orange and Blue Line projects be accepted into the FTA Capital Investment Grant Program. These request letters serve as a critical milestone kicking off Capital Metro’s formal funding for the two light rail projects.
Check out the CapMetro blog to learn more about this exciting step for the Orange and Blue Lines.

CapMetro Pickup Now Serving Dessau

Capital Metro has launched a new zone for Pickup by CapMetro in the Dessau area, bringing on-demand public transportation to the community and fulfilling an important component of the Project Connect system. The Pickup service can help customers in Dessau get to important locations, such as shopping centers, medical services, schools, parks and the Tech Ridge Park & Ride.
Customers can download the Pickup by CapMetro app from their phone's app store (iOS and Android), register for an account and book a trip. Those in the service zones without access to the smartphone app may call 512-369-6200. A one-way ride costs $1.25 - the same charge as a Single Ride pass used to take MetroBus and MetroRapid services – or it's included with a Capital Metro Day Pass, 7-Day Pass or 31-Day Pass! Kids ages 18 and younger ride free. Children 10 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
Service in the Pickup Dessau zone is available weekdays between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. In August, the service will expand to include Saturdays between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. This accessible service will pick customers up from their location within 15 minutes or less. For more info on Pickup by CapMetro, please visit capmetro.org/pickup.
