Project Progress
The east sidewalk on the Hawthorne Lane bridge is now open to pedestrians and bicyclists. The bridge is an active construction area, so residents are advised to follow any instructional signage to ensure safety. In the future, the sidewalk may temporarily close to accommodate repairs on the deck. The community will be notified of any sidewalk closures.
Provided there are no further COVID-related delays, the contractor anticipates completing end-of-line special trackwork construction at Sunnyside Avenue in September. On days with hot temperatures, early morning or nighttime work will be required.
The contractor has pulled rail across the Hawthorne Lane bridge and is preparing to attach the track. The first section of track has been encased in concrete. Excavating is underway at both sides of the bridge to install the remaining track foundation. Trackwork is expected to be complete in November, and a full bridge opening is anticipated by the end of the year.
The contractor has submitted a plan and a schedule to bring the bridge deck up to the proper elevation that was agreed upon by the City and NCDOT.
End-of-line special trackwork construction at French Street is complete. Construction work on the roadway continues between the special trackwork and the end of the line.
Final paving has started in the Uptown area.
The contractor continues to modify several of the existing Uptown stop platforms.
