CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2

Monthly Update for May 28, 2020

Project Progress

Construction continues on the end-of-line trackwork at French Street and has begun at Sunnyside Avenue. The special trackwork being install will allow the streetcar vehicle to change direction and head back toward Uptown.

The contractor continues median, planting strip and other related roadway work in the Uptown area.

Construction on the Hawthorne Lane bridge continues. All three concrete deck pours have been completed. All other remaining concrete work will continue through July.

On May 19, the City participated in a virtual meeting with the Elizabeth community. The team provided construction updates, guidance on filing damage claims and an overview of operating hours and service information from CATS. The team took questions from residents, which will be posted on the project website.

Project Schedule (Major Milestones)

Regular construction hours typically are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Crews may be onsite preparing work before 7 a.m. Concrete pours will be during the night or in the early morning due to temperature restrictions.

We understand the overnight concrete work will affect the community. We will provide notification 48 hours in advance of night or early-morning work whenever possible. The dates for the work may change due to inclement weather; however, an updated notice will be sent. Please be aware that 48 hours' notice cannot be given for emergencies that require immediate attention. City staff will notify individuals directly if access to their driveway is affected by construction.

City inspectors will be at various locations checking quality control and adherence to project plans.

For details and detours on road and lane closures affected by the CityLYNX Gold Project, please visit Charlotte Department of Transportation's interactive street closure page and visit the Gold Line Phase 2 project web page.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets as planned. When this occurs, City staff and contractors work to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Pedestrians should stay out of work zones. Those walking near work zones should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian signals where available and abide by detour signage.

Motorists traveling through work zones should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distances.
