CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2
May/June 2021 Update

PROJECT PROGRESS

  • CATS Operations began pre-revenue testing on May 10. To accommodate trains being on the tracks, the contractor will complete punch list items and final repairs outside of CATS' testing hours, which are currently between 6 p.m. and 2 a.m.

  • Construction crews may arrive as early as 2 a.m. and start work as early as 4 a.m.

  • Construction work over the past two months has included repairing minor cracks in the concrete slabs that hold the track in place, concrete pavement repair, modifying stop platforms for ADA compliance and adjusting the overhead catenary wire to ensure proper tensioning.

  • Most of the streetlights have been energized and are operational along the streetcar alignment. Duke Energy is still addressing streetlights near the intersection of College Street and Trade Street.

  • Duke Energy is in the process of removing temporary wooden poles and is expected to be complete by the end of June.

  • The contractor continues to work on sidewalk ramps where temporary poles were previously located.

  • The contractor has completed the installation of bridge joints on the Hawthorne Lane bridge.

ROAD AND LANE CLOSURES

CURRENT FUTURE

There are no current road or lane closures at this time.

There are no scheduled road or lane closures at this time.

For details and detours on road and lane closures affected by the CityLYNX Gold Line Project, please visit Charlotte Department of Transportation's interactive street closure page and visit the Gold Line Phase 2 project web page.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets as planned. When this occurs, City staff and contractors work to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Pedestrians should stay out of work zones. Those walking near work zones should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian signals where available and abide by detour signage.

Motorists traveling through work zones should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distances.
