I-485 TO POLK SEGMENT OPENS
Visitors can enjoy natural beauty, public art and presidential history
A new segment of the Little Sugar Creek Greenway/Cross Charlotte Trail between I-485 and the President James K. Polk State Historic Site is now open. The segment adds 1.8 miles to the existing greenway and includes stream enhancements to reduce erosion and improve water quality. This greenway segment was funded and built by Mecklenburg County and is part of the Cross Charlotte Trail.
Marsh Park
Traveling on a network of paved trail, bridges and boardwalks, pedestrians and bicyclists will encounter forest floodplains, marsh and wetlands that support a variety of plant and animal life. Around the halfway point is Marsh Park, a wetland habitat featuring an overlook with benches and a sculpture titled "STEM" by artist John Grade. The sculpture's form references a microscopic cross-section of the sedges growing in Marsh Park.
