Caltrain begins railroad crossing improvement project
Caltrain, in cooperation with its city partners, will begin a project to improve the safety at five at-grade railroad crossings (intersections where train tracks cross a street) in the cities of San Mateo and Menlo Park. Improvements include more clearly-marked pedestrian crossings with new paint striping and lettering, and pavement markers. The improvement plan also calls for the installation of a fixed concrete median with flexible bollards. The median is…Click to continue

Decomposition of the wood has accelerated over the past…Click to continue

Share the road and “go safely” during bicycle safety month
The weather is warming up, and we will see more bicyclists on the road. We encourage bicycle riding as it not only is an exercise benefit, bicycling is a great way to commute to work and school, and just a great way to get around. May is both National Bike Month and National Bicycle Safety Month. Motorists and bicyclists are sharing the roads now more than ever. Motorists must allow bicyclists enough space. California law requires drivers to give at least 3 feet of space when passing a bicyclist. We are providing some safety and…Click to continue

County seeks candidates for redistricting commission
San Mateo County is seeking applicants for its 2021 Supervisorial Districting Commission, which will develop draft boundaries for the five county districts based on demographic information from the 2020 census. Districting is done only once a decade and provides an opportunity to shape district boundaries in ways that reflect new population data and demographic changes. The county is seeking candidates that reflect the county's own demographic diversity. To be eligible, one must live in San Mateo County and not be an elected official…Click to continue
