City administrative offices to close for holidays
Each year, the City of Menlo Park observes city holidays for Christmas and New Year and implements a staff furlough during the administrative office closure the final week of December. This year's holidays and year-end closure result in city offices being shuttered Friday, Dec. 24, through Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022. City offices will re-open for business Monday, Jan. 3, 2022. Notice of Preparation to be released for the Housing Element Update
The City of Menlo Park is updating its Housing Element. The Housing Element Update will reach a milestone with this week's upcoming release of the Notice of Preparation, a required component of environmental review under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). The Notice of Preparation will be available on the Housing Element Update webpage. A hard copy will also be available for review at the Menlo Park Library and Belle Haven Branch Library. Gather safely during the holidays
As you gather with friends and family, keep COVID-19 in mind. Take steps to prevent its spread. 1) Get vaccinated, including a booster shot, 2) Keep gatherings small, 3) If your guests are unvaccinated or you don’t know their status, plan gatherings that are small, short and outdoors; 4) When gathering inside, ventilate well. Menlo Park Municipal Water encourages customers to conserve water
Since July, Menlo Park Municipal Water customers have been successful at cutting water usage by 5%. Menlo Park is encouraging its customers to continue to conserve water by reducing usage by at least 10% as our area is still in an extreme drought. One of the easiest ways for customers to save water is by limiting your irrigation usage, specifically by cutting back on watering lawns. Senate Bill 1383 enforces statewide composting
California’s new waste law, SB 1383, is a statewide effort to reduce emissions with one of its goals to reduce organic waste 50% by Jan. 1, 2020, and 75% by Jan. 1, 2025. Organics and compostable materials placed in landfills break down without oxygen. This creates methane, a potent greenhouse gas. Instead, these materials should be disposed in the organics collection where they can be turned into compost which supports our local agriculture and food cycle.
