Quote of the week

I, I will be king
And you, you will be queen
Though nothing
Will drive them away
We can be heroes
Just for one day
We can be us
Just for one day.

I, I can remember
Standing by the wall
And the guns
Shot above our heads
And we kissed
As though nothing could fall.

And the shame
Was on the other side
Oh, we can beat them!
For ever and ever
Then we could be heroes
Just for one day.

―David Bowie

Park spotlight: Karl E. Clark Park

Karl E. Clark Park

Menlo Park is home to many beautiful parks and open spaces, including neighborhood gem Karl E. Clark Park. Situated on 1 acre at the corner of Market Place and Hamilton Avenue in Menlo Park’s Belle Haven neighborhood, the park is named after Karl Edward Clark, a Navy hero and devoted local leader in the Belle Haven neighborhood for six decades starting in 1954. The centerpiece of the park is a storyboard commemorating Mr. Clark’s extraordinary life and his legacy of leadership and service to his community and to his country. His story is a must-read for all who seek to know the fullness of our rich and complex history as told through the life story of a remarkable local and national hero. Karl E. Clark Park also features a playground, grass areas, walking paths and shade trees, and is the site of joyous celebrations.
