CityLYNX Gold Line Phase 2
April 2021 Update

PROJECT PROGRESS

  • Hardware for the new streetlights have been installed. All streetlights have been energized except for two blocks on Hawthorne Lane between 5th Street and 7th Street. Duke Energy will energize these in April. The project team is working to determine whether a hardware, tie-in or other issue is keeping the lights from being energized and is working with Duke on a schedule. There will be more on this task in next month’s update.

  • The contractor continues to work with Duke Energy to remove wooden poles that held the temporary streetlights. This work is 90% complete.

  • The contractor continues to install pedestrian signals project-wide.

  • The contractor has completed the retaining wall along Frazier Avenue, and the nearby sidewalk and driveways have been poured. All sidewalks on the westbound side of Beatties Ford Road between French Street and Mill Street have been  poured. Sidewalks have also been poured on Hawthorne Lane between Sunnyside Avenue and the bridge. The sidewalk on Park Avenue near the traction power substation is complete.

  • In-street vehicle testing, including new traffic/streetcar-specific signals, continues in preparation for revenue service.

Regular construction hours typically are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Crews may be onsite preparing work before 7 a.m. Concrete pours will be during the night or in the early morning due to temperature restrictions.

We understand the overnight concrete work will affect the community. We will provide notification 48 hours in advance of night or early-morning work whenever possible. The dates for the work may change due to inclement weather; however, an updated notice will be sent. Please be aware that 48 hours' notice cannot be given for emergencies that require immediate attention. City staff will notify individuals directly if access to their driveway is affected by construction.

City inspectors will be at various locations checking quality control and adherence to project plans.

Park your entire vehicle within the solid white parking lines. Incorrectly parked cars will be subject to a citation and towing.

For details and detours on road and lane closures affected by the CityLYNX Gold Project, please visit Charlotte Department of Transportation's interactive street closure page and visit the Gold Line Phase 2 project web page.

Weather and unforeseen circumstances occasionally prevent work from being completed as scheduled and make it unsafe to reopen lanes or streets as planned. When this occurs, City staff and contractors work to resolve the situation as quickly as possible and reduce impacts to the traveling public.

Pedestrians should stay out of work zones. Those walking near work zones should be alert, cautious and allow extra traveling time. It is advised they cross at signalized intersections, use pedestrian signals where available and abide by detour signage.

Motorists traveling through work zones should be alert and extra cautious. Drivers should get in the correct lane well in advance and constantly be on the lookout for vehicles merging into adjacent travel lanes as they approach a work zone. Drivers should double their following distances.
