Beginning at 11 p.m. on Monday, October 25, I-5 construction crews will demolish a northbound bridge span over El Toro Road. To do so safely and swiftly, northbound lanes on I-5 will be reduced and El Toro Road off and on-ramps will be closed nightly from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Weather permitting, this demolition will take approximately 5 nights to complete and will also require the closure of El Toro Road from about Rockfield Boulevard to Avenida de La Carlota.
Several detours will provide access to I-5 via Alicia Parkway and Lake Forest Drive. In addition, high visibility electronic portable message boards and detour signs will be in place throughout the area. Detour information and maps are provided below and can also be access at http://octa.net/Projects-and-Programs/All-Projects/Freeway-Projects/Santa-Ana-Freeway-(I-5)/I-5-(SR-73-to-El-Toro-Road)/?frm=12924#!Construction.
Approved by Orange County voters, the I-5 Freeway Widening Project from State Route 73 to El Toro Road will deliver new general-purpose lanes in both the northbound and southbound direction, as well as extend the second carpool lanes, add various auxiliary lanes and make operational improvements along this 6.5 mile stretch in south Orange County.
