Charlotte Firefighters Rescue Two Victims from House Fire

On Sunday, May 19, crews from Charlotte Fire responded to a house fire in the 700 block of Allister Road. At 9:23 a.m., a call came in to Charlotte Fire Alarm from John Sibray, a resident who was trapped inside the home.
In three minutes from the initial call, Charlotte Fire Battalion Chief Brian Beatty was on the scene.
âI could see the smoke showing and confirmed this was a working fire. Alarm was on the phone the whole time with the caller advising they couldnât get out,â Beatty said.
While Charlotte Fire answers hundreds of emergencies a day, this is just one of the many heroic acts of the women and men of the Charlotte Fire Department.

Memorial Day Service Impacts

City of Charlotte offices will be closed on Monday, May 27 for the Memorial Day Holiday.
Solid Waste Services' collection will operate according to its normal schedule.
On Monday, May 27, all Charlotte Area Transit System (CATS) bus, rail, and paratransit services will operate on a Saturday schedule. The CATS call center, pass sales, and information office at the Charlotte Transportation Center will be closed on May 27, and will resume normal hours on May 28.
CATS will also operate a shuttle service from Cornelius Park and Ride to Ramsey Creek Park beach at Lake Norman starting Saturday, May 25 through Monday, May 27. The first trip will leave Cornelius Park and Ride at 11 a.m., and the final trip will leave Ramsey Creek Park beach at 6:12 p.m. each day.

Mayor Lyles Presents 26th Mayorâs International Community Awards

On May 14, the City of Charlotte Mayorâs Office, in partnership with Economic Development and the Charlotte International Cabinet (CIC), hosted the 26th Mayorâs International Community Awards (MICA).
MICA recognizes the corporate philanthropy of three foreign-owned firms and the internationally focused contributions of individuals in the Charlotte area.

Upcoming Events
CATS Rail Shutdown

On Saturday, June 8, and Sunday, June 9, the Charlotte Area Transit Systemâs (CATS) Gold Line and Blue Line will be shut down for scheduled maintenance. During this time, a bus bridge will be in service for both alignments. Stay tuned as CATS will provide more information in the coming days.

Wait, a Minute: The First Woman on Charlotte City Council

Martha Evans, the first woman to serve on Charlotte City Council, attended her first city council meeting on May 11, 1955.
This was the start of a lengthy political career where Evans would serve two terms on the city council and three terms in the North Carolina General Assembly.
