Light Up The Season event is Friday, Dec. 1

The City of Menlo Park will host a Light up the Season community event at Fremont Park on Friday, Dec. 1. This “winter wonderland” themed event will feature family-friendly entertainment, performances by Menlo Park youth, wintry photo opportunities, free hot cocoa and the annual lighting of the big evergreen tree. This is a festive community gathering for people of all ages and walks of life! The event will occur rain or shine. Admission is free. Join us Friday, Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. at Fremont Park.

NaNoWriMo Write-In

Have you been participating in National Novel Writing Month? For a little support in making that last push to 50,000 words, join fellow NaNoWriMo participants for an evening of writing sprints, prompts, discussion and community. All levels welcomed! People just starting in on this year’s challenge are also welcome. This free community event received partial funding support from Friends of Menlo Park Library. Preschool open house – Belle Haven Child Development Center

Belle Haven Child Development Center is now enrolling children ages three–five years old. Come to our drop-in open house to meet the staff, tour the classrooms and hear about our play-based curriculum. Subsidized tuition is available for qualified families. Community classes – Enrollment opens Dec. 5

The City of Menlo Park hosts a wide range of high-quality classes for all ages and interests including fitness, dance, sports, youth gymnastics, music, drama, arts and crafts, lifelong learning and summer camps. The winter 2024 catalog will open for enrollment on Dec. 5 for Menlo Park residents, and Dec. 12 for non-residents. Check out our online activity guide to find and enroll in classes.

Photos with Santa event is Saturday, Dec. 16

The City of Menlo Park will host a Photos with Santa community event at Arrillaga Family Recreation Center on Saturday, Dec. 16. Tickets are $5 per person. Bring your camera and join us with friends and family for a morning full of holiday cheer, including a continental breakfast, holiday crafts and a photo with Santa. Native American cultural impact on the United States

Colonization of this continent had a cultural impact upon its indigenous people—but what impact did Native Americans have on what would evolve into U.S. culture? Anthropologist and author Robert Keith Collins, Ph.D. of San Francisco State University will visit us to talk about the “Gift of Native America.” This free community event received partial funding support from Friends of Menlo Park Library. Cooking with Chími Nu'am author Sara Calvosa Olson

Join us online for a special event in recognition of Native American Heritage Month. Sara will teach us about “The Three Sisters,” an advanced agricultural technique developed by the Haudenosaunee people to enhance biodiversity, attract pollinators and deter weeds and pests by planting a trio of beans, corn and squash. Feel free to cook along with the demonstration. This free community event received partial funding support from Friends of Menlo Park Library. The event will take place Thursday, Nov. 30 at 6 p.m. via Zoom.

Teen DJ workshop

We have a great event coming up for Teens. Students in Grades 6-12 are invited to meet Taipei-born, internationally trained DJ Yuka Yu, who will share hands-on lessons in the art of being a professional DJ.
