How We Plow

Even during the mildest winters, the Town of Apex is prepared to face any snow or ice that comes our way. Plows and equipment are tested far in advance of any inclement weather event, and our on-site salt dome is prepped with 600 tons of salt, ready to be dissolved into brine that can pretreat our roads.

Here are a few things to note about the town’s plowing operations:

  • In a snow or ice event, our Public Works crews work around the clock to treat and/or clear streets. They start with major thoroughfares, work their way to collector roads, then into the subdivisions.
  • To help us plow safely, please remove vehicles, trash/recycling carts, basketball goals, and other items from the curbside.
  • Keep in mind that in an ice event, plowing is not as effective, as it's tough for plows to get under the ice to move it away. So we concentrate more on spreading sand in major intersections and shady areas, to provide traction.
  • Stay tuned to our Weather page for the latest updates on town facility closures or changes to solid waste collection schedules.

Top Five List - Website Searches

Nearly 67,000 search terms were entered in the town’s website over the past year! Here’s some helpful info about some of the most frequently searched terms:

  1. Open Gym:  The John M. Brown Community Center is available for Open Gym use (passes are required) during scheduled times throughout the week for basketball and volleyball indoor play. Be sure to check the online schedule or call (919) 249-3402 before arriving to confirm hours.
  2. Jobs:  The town currently employees nearly 600 positions across a variety of functions. Find current job listings, and information about our commitment to providing best-in-class benefits for our employees, on our jobs page.
  3. Athletics:  With over 4,600 participants in our athletics programs last year, no wonder these rank high in web searches! Take a look at all we have to offer for youth and adult programming.
  4. Report a Concern:  Did you notice a street sign in disrepair, a tree down on a greenway, or a pothole in a town street? Use our Report a Concern page to let us know about these issues and more!
  5. Power Outage:  The Town of Apex is unique in that we provide electric service to most homes and businesses in town. You can report your outage one of four ways – learn more here.

150 years of history, culture, and community cannot be celebrated in just one day, which is why we’re planning a full 365-day celebration. We hope you’ll join us by going “All In” on all the year has to offer.
