Givens District Park
January 2026 Project Updates
Background
The Givens Recreation Center remains closed for major improvements as part of two coordinated renovation projects. These upgrades are designed to enhance safety, improve facility operations, and minimize the overall closure period. The work began in November 2024, with a new metal roof installed above the gymnasium in January 2025 and new gymnasium windows installed in October 2025. Other work includes replacement of the concrete patio, replacement of the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) equipment, replacement of the flat roof and work on the gymnasium interior. Both projects anticipate completion in 2026.
Deteriorated roof decking was identified after roofing membrane material was removed (see photos below). Replacement of roof decking was unplanned, and has created unforeseen delays. Both project teams are collaborating to align work scopes in tandem to be completed as quickly as possible. Updates on project delays or recoveries will be included in subsequent monthly project updates.
