COMMUNITY DESIGN PROCESS FOR
PRG HENRYTON ROAD SPUR BEGINS
The Baltimore Regional Transportation Board (BRTB), Carroll County, Howard County, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources are working together to plan a new section of the Patapsco Regional Greenway (PRG). This trail segment will connect the Sykesville to McKeldin segment and cross the South Branch of the Patapsco River.
As planning begins, we want to hear from you. What do you think about the proposed location? Are there challenges we should know about? How can we make the trail work for everyone?
Community feedback is welcome through an online or text survey, voicemail, or email through Monday, April 6, 2026.

TRANSPORTATION PLANNING BUDGET UPDATE
Every year the BRTB receives federal funding to plan the future of transportation in our region. This year, we have proposed over a dozen planning projects and studies ($3.4M total). An additional $7.5M supports ongoing work by staff to meet federal requirements.
Thank you to everyone who shared feedback on this yearâs Transportation Planning Budget! We had over 435 people visit our project page, with 28 participants sharing 46 comments. Here are some highlights of what we heard:
- Strong support for reliable transit and better regional connections
- A need for safer walking and biking infrastructure
- Support for bus rapid transit planning and clear standards
- Interest in transit-oriented development and âmissing middleâ housing
- A desire to focus more on implementing projects, not just planning
The BRTB is currently reviewing comments and will respond around April 10. The BRTB Technical Committee is expected to review a final draft on April 7 and the BRTB will vote on April 24. Once approved by the BRTB, a federal team reviews the plan and funding is released for projects after July 1, 2026.

HELP SHAPE WHAT COMES NEXT: INTRODUCING REGIONNOW AND REGIONNEXT 2055
Weâre launching two connected efforts that will help shape transportation in our region:
RegionNow = whatâs happening now
Projects being funded over the next four years
RegionNext = what comes next
The long-range transportation plan guiding the next 20+ years
Whatâs happening and how to get involved:
- April â June: Agencies submit project ideas for RegionNext
- April 7 & April 24: Review of the draft financial plan for RegionNext
- May 5 & May 26: Review of goals, priorities, and how projects will be evaluated
- May 7 â June 8: comments will be welcome on the draft RegionNow (2027-2030 Transportation Improvement Program) and an amendment to the long-range transportation plan for the Chesapeake Bay Bridge project.
These steps help decide what gets built nowâand what comes next. More opportunities to get involved are coming later this yearâstay tuned for ways to share your input.

PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLIST SAFETY IS A JOB FOR ALL OF US
As the weather warms up, more people are walking and biking. That also means a higher risk of crashes. When a car hits someone walking or biking, the results are often serious. Speed matters â a person is much more likely to die if hit at 40 mph than at 20 mph. We can all help prevent crashes.
Drivers:
- Slow down and stay alert
- Avoid distractions like texting
- Use headlights when visibility is low
- Be extra careful near crosswalks and schools
- Make eye contact with people crossing
Pedestrians & Cyclists:
- Wear bright or reflective clothing
- Look left, right, and left again before crossing
- Make sure drivers see you before stepping into the road
Small actions can save lives. Letâs work together to keep our streets safe.
