Rental Fee Transparency
The Rental Fee Transparency Ordinance (20260528-045) was approved by the Austin City Council on May 28, 2026, requiring housing providers with five or more residential units to give prospective tenants a written, itemized list of all mandatory, optional, and estimated variable fees before quoting rent or accepting applications. The goal is to help renters understand the full cost of living in a unit and avoid unexpected charges. All rental advertisements must include the cost of rent and any recurring fixed fees.

Austin Planning | Have you been impacted by redevelopment under a density bonus program?

Are you a tenant, property manager, small business owner, or someone else whose building will be or has been redeveloped through a density bonus program? City staff are compiling a report to document experiences with tenant and small business protections in Austin’s Code of Ordinances known as Chapter 4-18, Article 2.
These protections provide financial support to tenants and certain businesses or services, and help preserve certain affordable housing opportunities and commercial and civic uses.
Visit the project page to learn more and submit comments or fill out the interest form to get more involved in the process.

Austin Planning is updating the Imagine Austin Comprehensive Plan, and we want to hear from you! When Imagine Austin was created in 2012, City staff worked with community members to identify and rank the top priorities for the City and the comprehensive plan. As we update Imagine Austin, we’re checking back in to better understand how you feel about those same priorities today and if they still reflect Austin’s needs and values.
Please take this quick survey, which should take you less than 10 minutes to complete, to share your thoughts on the Imagine Austin Priorities. Your input will help shape the priorities that guide how our city grows and evolves. Whether you’ve been here for years or are new to the city, whether you live or work here — we’re all Austinites and your voice matters! The survey will remain open until Oct. 18.
