Project update for Coxe Ave Streetscape w/City logo

On Monday, April 13, survey crews from the engineering firm Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. (JMT) will be on the street to begin work on subsurface utility exploration (SUE). This will provide accurate utility location information for the streetscape project’s infrastructure improvements. This is an important step to minimize future disruptions or delays and ensure a successful project.

SUE locations are:

  • Coxe Avenue at Patton Avenue - Test hole; vacuum excavation equipment will be used

  • Coxe Avenue at Hilliard Avenue (2 locations) - Test hole; vacuum excavation equipment will be used

  • Between Bear’s Smokehouse Barbecue and Asheville Sports Club - Test hole; excavation by hand

  • Coxe Avenue near the Southside Avenue intersection - Survey infrastructure with access through existing manhole

There may be noise and some disruption from this work. Later this week, we will go door to door to speak with businesses or residents in front of, adjacent to, or across from the work areas.

The work is planned to be complete in 1-2 days. There will be single lane closures and limited loading zone and parking spot closures throughout the day required to complete this work.
