Hi neighbor,
We have been hearing that the community would like to get more information about the Del Curto Storm Drain Improvements project. We will be trying to send more regular updates through email to help keep you informed.

The contractor currently has two crews working.
One crew is installing large, rectangular box culverts that will help the streets drain. The box culverts will carry storm water safely to the creek in heavy rainfall. As this crew approaches the Delcrest Drive and Southland Drive intersection, work will begin within the intersection. Please expect the intersection to remain under partial closure from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. for the time being. Flaggers will be on site to safely direct traffic and assist motorists through the work zone as construction progresses. We appreciate your patience and understanding while this work is completed.
The other crew is working on a headwall within a small creek off of Thornton Drive. The headwall will help prevent erosion where the storm drain system empties into the creek. Crews are accessing the creek in the 2200 block of Thornton Road. Please expect construction traffic in that area.

We will be putting two new water lines in service soon. We turned water off briefly on Friday to test the valves in preparation. To connect the new water line to homes and businesses, we’ll need to shut off water on two days.
On Thursday, August 6, starting at 9 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. to homes on Southland Drive and Delcrest Drive.
On Tuesday, August 11, starting at 9 a.m. until approximately 5 p.m. to properties on Thornton Road, Oltorf and South Lamar.
- Thornton Road, from Oltorf St. to 2506 Thornton Rd.
- Oltorf Street, from S. Lamar Blvd. to 1210 Oltorf St.
- S. Lamar Boulevard, including CVS, Office Depot and the taxidermist
We will leave notices 48 hours in advance at each property as an official notice and to confirm who is impacted.
If your residence or business will be affected, please consider storing water in a pitcher / bathtub so you will have water supplies on hand during this time. When services are restored, please flush your lines by running a cold-water bathtub spigot and an outside faucet for 10-15 minutes before using other faucets. This rids the system of any natural sediment buildup that may have occurred over the years. It's helpful to rinse out faucet screens as well.

This project is improving the storm drain system in the South Lamar area and will help protect the area from flooding. There’s more information on the project web page.

What else should I know about this construction?
|
|
|
|
The work hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The contractor has been working on Saturdays to make progress before school starts up and to make up for all the rainy days when they have been unable to work.
Please allow extra time to travel and slow down in the construction areas. Roads are being temporarily patched during the construction. They will be repaved at the end of the project, towards the end of 2027.
For your safety, stay out of fenced off areas and follow all detours. The detours apply to pedestrians and bicyclists as well as cars.
