As we move past the halfway point of the year, San Antonio Ready to Work (RTW) continues to shine as a powerful example of what San Antonio can accomplish together. I'm proud to share that we have surpassed 5,700 approved job placements. It's a goal that we had set to reach later this year, but it is a great feeling to know that thousands of individuals and their familiies are gaining stability, confidence, and a pathway toward long-term success.

Right now, our City is experiencing tremendous momentum, especially in the manufacturing and construction sectors. With a major expansion announcement from Toyota, the arrival of JCB's new one-million square foot facility, a major airport build, and the future downtown entertaininment district on the horizon, San Antonio is a hub for opportunity. RTW stands prepared to meet this moment, connecting residents to meaningful careers through our prime partners, exceptional training providers, and employers that believe in the program.

There is no other way to describe it, but this voter-approved national award winning program is proving to be a big success built for San Antonio. Even those that may not need the training will feel the impact of this nationally recognized program as it helps fill our in-demand roles within our workforce. To keep the progress growing, we must continue sharing the message, positivity, and impact of RTW. Together, we are opening doors, stengthening our workforce, and building a brighter future for every resident.

Participant Spotlight

From Setback to Success

A black desktop with a keyboard, cup of coffee, pen, and a cell phone and a picture of Ready to Work participant Janah Rodriguez smiling and wearing green.

At 45, Janah Rodriguez faced unemployment for the first time in her adult life. After months of searching, she accepted a front‑desk job in a medical office which was far from where she hoped her career would be. That turning point led her to San Antonio Ready to Work, where she enrolled in an employer cohort designed to open doors to in‑demand careers.

"I was able to turn my goals into reality," Janah said. "I completed my Certified Professional Coder training and gained my apprenticeship in just five months."

With determination and support from Alamo Colleges District and RTW, Janah not only earned that apprenticeship with Guidehouse, but she quickly showed her worth during a ten‑week externship, where she excelled and completed all required hours ahead of schedule.

Janah’s hard work paid off. Guidehouse offered her a permanent position, and just last month, she proudly celebrated her one‑year anniversary.

"Taking a chance to apply for Ready to Work was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made," Janah added. "The program opened doors, strengthened my confidence, and reminded me that the sacrifices along the way were truly worth it."
