Greetings from the City Manager

As we gather to celebrate this season of gratitude, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt thanks to all of you who make our city such a wonderful place to live and work. I am truly grateful to be part of a dynamic and vibrant community that is committed to growth and improvement.

This year, we have much to be thankful for, including the successful passage of Measure I. Your trust and support demonstrate a shared vision for our city’s future, and I want to thank every voter who participated in this important decision. Together, we are taking meaningful steps toward a stronger, more prosperous community.

We Want to Hear from You

We also help community members and students create their own shows at our facility or post their independently created content on our channels. By doing this, PCTV partners with the public to chronicle and preserve the life and history of Pinole for now and future generations.

The City of Pinole is supporting Anna Smith, fellow Pinole citizen and Executive Director of Quinan Street Project, in her quest to learn the temperature of having more vegan and vegetarian menu options at Pinole businesses. Increased availability of vegan and vegetarian options bring health, environmental and economic benefits. The survey will help gauge the community’s desire and respond accordingly. This survey will additionally help the City learn if there are any dietary gaps that it can help address. Please take this 3-minute survey to share your appetite for more plant-based. Inside the Council Chambers

City Council awarded the World Planning Day proclamation to Pinole's Planning Manager David Hanham.

At the council meeting on November 19, Pinole City Council honored the following with proclamations: Native American Heritage Month, Sikh Awareness Month, and World Town Planning Day.

HIGHLIGHTS

At Tuesday's meeting, Capital Improvement Project Manager Faby Guillen presented innovative traffic and pedestrian safety programs to City council. A traffic and speed safety report revealed several zones in Pinole that are being recommended for a speed limit reduction. Some streets that are being recommended for speed limit reductions include Pinole Valley Road between Simas Avenue and Granada Court and San Pablo Avenue between Sunnyview Drive and Oak Ridge Road. A Public Hearing for reducing speed limits will be on December 3, 2024.

Staff also reported that the City is preparing to launch programs such as crosswalks painting to bring art and visibility to crosswalks in the downtown area and pilot concepts such as no right turns on red from San Pablo Avenue to make crossing the street safer in busy areas. In addition, Pinole has identified 60 locations that are being reviewed to paint red curbs to help enforce AB 413, also known as the Daylighting Law, which prohibits drivers from parking their cars within 20ft of a crosswalk. PINOLE WELCOMES NEW POLICE CHIEF MELISSA KLAWUHN

The City of Pinole is pleased to announce the appointment of Melissa Klawuhn as its new Police Chief. Chief Klawuhn is an innovative and seasoned public safety professional with more than 23 years of experience and brings extensive leadership, operational expertise, financial acumen, and a commitment to community engagement to her new role. The selection of Chief Klawuhn followed a robust recruitment process which involved extensive community engagement. The City Manager and recruitment team actively sought input from residents and community stakeholders through outreach efforts, including public forums, surveys, and a community interview panel. The feedback collected helped shape the recruitment process to ensure that the qualities and priorities identified by the community were reflected in the search for the city’s new Police Chief. Chief Klawuhn’s strong alignment with these priorities, particularly her commitment to transparency, community-focused policing, creating programs for mental health outreach and support, creating programs to mentor women in law enforcement, and fostering positive relationships, made her the ideal choice.

Pinole Police Department is currently being led by Acting Chief Matt Avery – an active and dedicated community member - who plans to retire at the end of December. Commander Jeremy Crone, a steadfast leader,  will serve as interim Police Chief until Klawuhn officially begins her duties in mid-January. The City of Pinole is extremely grateful for Acting Chief Avery and Commander Crone’s exceptional leadership and stepping during this important transition period.

PINOLE PD SPREADS THANKSGIVING CHEER

The Pinole Police Department held their annual Thanksgiving Dinner Giveaway this week, delivering meals to deserving families in our community and surrounding areas. On social media, Pinole PD expressed gratitude to our local public schools and generous sponsors who helped make the event a big success: Civic Center Tow, Pear Street Bistro, Oliver’s Tow, and Lino Amaral-State Farm.

PUBLIC REVIEW DRAFT OF ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION PLAN AVAILABLE

After a year of community and stakeholder engagement through the Walk and Roll Pinole initiative, the City is proud to release a public review draft of its Active Transportation Plan (ATP). The ATP will be a blueprint to enhance a safe transportation network for residents and visitors to walk, bike, and scoot. The ATP will also place the City in a good position to receive grant funding. An ATP brings co-benefits such as health and economic benefits for active transporters as well as environmental benefits from reduced driving. REVIEW the draft Active Transportation Plan HERE.
