Huntersville Cares: Support Local Families
Huntersville Cares is a partnership with the Huntersville Police and Parks and Recreation to provide support to families in need during the holiday season. We work with local law enforcement, schools and non-profits to identify families in need in our area.
Families fill out an application specifying the items they need. We then work with the community to gather donations, wrap the gifts, and host an event where families can pick them up. At the event, we also offer craft stations, ice cream, bounce houses, and much more.
Read more on our website about how you can give.

Flags at New Town Hall
Members of the Huntersville Fire Department officially raised the United States flag and North Carolina state flag at the new Town Hall Tuesday, November 4. Flags were raised and then lowered to be flown at half staff due to the death of former Vice President Dick Cheney. The U.S. Flag at the old Town Hall was respectfully removed from its flagpole as well, and will be flown at one of the Huntersville Fire Department's fire stations. Thank you, HFD, for your service in raising the flags at the new Town Hall!

Spotlight on Sustainability by the Environmental Sustainability Committee
This holiday season, try these five small swaps to make your holidays bright and your wallet and the planet happy too!
-
Shop Local: Support small businesses offering locally made gifts. Your shopping bag and your local purchase will use fewer packing materials than online purchases, support our local economy, and have a smaller carbon footprint.
-
DIY: You don’t need to be “crafty” to make a much-appreciated homemade gift like a soup mix in a jar, a themed gift basket, or a framed photo.
-
Thrift: Hunt for the perfect gift at 10+ thrift/consignment stores in our area, giving a second life to a great gift that might have ended up in the landfill.
-
Give Experiences: Cooking classes, bowling nights, movie or museum tickets, or a homemade scavenger hunt make memorable gifts that won’t clutter the closet or require batteries.
-
Wrap It: Americans dispose of four million tons of gift packaging yearly, and most of it is not recyclable. Choose brown or recycled paper, a reusable fabric, or a gift bag. Scrap the plastic bows and opt for multi-use ribbon or string. Craft gift tags from paper scraps or old holiday cards.
Want to get involved? Want more ideas? The Environmental Sustainability Committee (ESC) meets monthly and welcomes community participation. To learn more, visit the Town’s website, contact ESC member Dan Fogel, or join one of the upcoming sessions.
