Save the date: Summer Reading Game finale party

Join us at the library Aug. 31 to celebrate the finale of the Menlo Park Summer Reading Game with fun and games for the whole family. Come dressed as your favorite book character and add to the fun. Enjoy carnival games, prize drawings, live music and pizza to close out a summer of discovering great books and earning prizes for reading. Get involved! Menlo Park Youth Advisory Committee

City of Menlo Park’s Youth Advisory committee is now accepting applications for the 2023-24 school year. Students enrolling in grades ninth-12th and who live within Menlo Park city limits or attending a Menlo Park high school are eligible to apply. The Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) offers high school students an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience with civic engagement, have their voices heard and contribute to decisions that directly affect their schools and community. Participants will gain a sense of empowerment, belonging and develop their leadership skills, teamwork, communication, problem-solving and critical thinking. The application deadline is Aug. 18. Pickleball tournament

The City of Menlo Park will host a mixed doubles round robin pickleball tournament Saturday, Sept. 9, starting at 9 a.m. at Kelly Park. Sign up your team and enjoy a morning of community spirit, food, fun and pickleball. Tournament is co-sponsored by Sports Basement and Starbucks. Teams should have one partner sign up for both players. Sign up online.

Temporary closure at Kelly Park

It’s time for another concert at the library! Lendl San Jose (aka Ukulenny) has a repertoire that goes from Hawaiian music, to the Beatles, Temptations, Lady Gaga and well beyond. Join us for an entertaining, energetic, feel-good show Saturday, Aug. 19 at 1 p.m. at Belle Haven Branch Library, 413 Ivy Dr.

Global Language Storytime: Spanish

Babies, toddlers and their grown-ups are invited to join us for a fun-filled Spanish-language storytime! Teacher Guadalupe from Colors of Spanish will share music, movement and stories during a special event is great for bilingual and second language-learning families. The fun and learning will happen Thursday, Aug. 24 from 11:30 a.m.–noon at Menlo Park Library, 800 Alma St.

One of our popular quarantine-era online adult events returns, just in time for some summer fun! Enjoy the camaraderie as we gather virtually for an early evening of beer tasting, trivia, conversation and fun. It takes place Thursday, Aug. 24 from 6:30–7:30 p.m. via Zoom.

Bob Baker Marionettes

Menlo Park’s 6th Annual Summer Puppetry Festival is coming to a close in style! Bob Baker Marionette Theater has been pulling the strings of family fun since 1963 and was named an official Los Angeles Historic-Cultural Monument in 2009. They've even trained some of the marionette artists we've hosted here in Menlo Park! Join us for this don’t-miss show Saturday, Aug. 26 from 10:30–11 a.m. outside Menlo Park Library, 800 Alma St.
