Project update for Coxe Avenue streetscape

Underground Survey Work Upcoming on Coxe Avenue

Thanks to all of you who have shared your input on this project. We’re committed to keeping you informed and engaged.  The project is in the final stages of design.

Survey crews from the engineering firm Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson, Inc. (JMT) plan to be on the street in early April performing subsurface utility exploration (SUE) to provide accurate utility location information for the streetscape project’s infrastructure improvements. They will dig five test holes. This is an important step to minimize future disruptions or delays and ensure a successful project.

Test hole locations are:

  • Coxe Avenue at Patton Avenue
  • Coxe Avenue at Hilliard Avenue (2 locations)
  • Between Bear’s Smokehouse Barbecue and Asheville Sports Club
  • Coxe Avenue near the Southside Avenue intersection

There will be noise and some disruption from this work. When specific dates for the work are scheduled, we will go door to door to speak with businesses or residents in front of, adjacent to, or across from the work areas.

The work is planned to be complete in 1-2 days. There will be single lane closures, limited parking spot closures, and a closure of a small portion of sidewalk throughout the day required to complete this work.
