Safety and Mobility Improvements
along Rutland Drive

The City of Austin will soon begin Phase 3 safety and mobility improvements on Rutland Drive, Longhorn Boulevard and Neils Thompson Drive. These improvements reflect community feedback gathered through a public survey conducted from September 16 to October 6, 2024, and a community pop-up event held on September 28, 2024

Completed Improvements
- Protected intersection at Metric Boulevard
- Slip lane closure at Quail Valley Boulevard
- Protected bike lanes on Rutland Drive
Improvements In-Progress
- Protected intersection at Mearns Meadow
- Urban trail along Neils Thompson Drive and Longhorn Boulevard

Planned Improvements
The next phase of work includes:
- 12 new pedestrian crossing islands along Rutland Drive
- A pedestrian hybrid beacon (PHB) at Quail Valley Boulevard
- Safe Routes to School improvements at Quail Valley Boulevard and Ledgewood Drive
- A new roundabout with protected bike lanes at Parkfield Drive
Installation
The first pedestrian crossing islands and PHB are expected in fall 2026. The remaining work will take place in 2027. This includes the Parkfield Drive roundabout, the final crossing islands on Rutland Drive, as well as the Burnet Road shared-use path improvements as part of the Burnet Road Corridor project.
