The City of Charlotte received more than 1,200 applications for summer youth internships and is looking for employers to help create meaningful experiences for local students. Each paid, six-week internship helps a student build confidence, gain workplace experience, explore a career, and develop professional skills. Do you want to have a life-changing impact on a Charlotte student? Sign up to host a youth intern for this summer’s program! Wellness in the Park Brought Services to Catherine Simmons Avenue
On Feb. 27, HNS Corridors of Opportunity and the NEST team connected neighbors to health care, housing information, and essential services with Mecklenburg County and Alliance Health. “Events like Wellness in the Park demonstrate that commitment in action by aligning partners, removing barriers to access and delivering critical resources directly to residents,” HNS Director Rebecca Hefner said. City Council Approved Support for Five Points Land Acquisition
In February, City Council approved up to $4.131 million to help Historic West End Partners acquire the Five Points site on West Trade Street for a future mixed-use development with an affordable housing component near the Gold Line, Johnson C. Smith University, and Gateway Station. This action supports land acquisition now, with the full development plan to be finalized and brought forward later. The concept includes about 145 affordable homes, a grocery anchor, and space for small business incubators. Learn more about the Council action and what comes next.

City Council will hold a budget workshop on March 23 to review and discuss information related to development of the city’s FY 2027 Annual Operating and Capital Budget. Energy Saver NC Rebates Now Available in Charlotte
State-run rebates can help income-eligible homeowners and renters pay for energy upgrades. Start with Homeowners Managing Efficiency Savings (HOMES), then consider Home Electrification and Appliance Rebates (HEAR). The program runs until 2031 or until funds are exhausted. Learn more and apply for Energy Saver NC rebates.

Mecklenburg County Energy Assistance Programs
Mecklenburg County offers energy assistance programs to help eligible households avoid utility disconnections and reduce housing instability. Available programs include Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LIEAP) and the Crisis Intervention Program (CIP). Residents can review eligibility requirements and application instructions through the county’s Energy Assistance Programs page or call 704-336-3000 for more information.
