I-80 | Parleys Canyon Upgrade
CONSTRUCTION UPDATE

Another week of progress on the I-80 Parleys Canyon Paving Project -- and we're excited to share that the end is in sight! We want to sincerely apologize to those who got stuck in westbound traffic last weekend. Between two separate crashes, the Deer Valley Music Festival, and the ongoing construction, we know it made for a frustrating night. We hear your concerns, and after further coordination with the project team, we've adjusted the schedule. Westbound lane closures will now begin later -- at 10:30pm -- tonight (7/18) and again next Friday night (7/25).

We still encourage you to plan ahead and check your traffic app before heading out. Consider taking alternate routes such as US-40 to Provo Canyon, SR-224 (Empire Pass) or Emigration Canyon via Exit 134 to help avoid congestion.

Also, please note that crews will be working this Sunday night (7/20) to help ensure this paving project wraps up by end of July. Thank you for staying informed as we work toward a safer, smoother ride for everyone traveling through the canyon.

SCHEDULE

Work Hours: Mostly Nighttime (7pm - 6am); Some Daytime work as necessary
Workdays: Monday Night - Sunday Morning; Sunday night only as necessary

Project Total Duration: Approximately 75 days

Schedules are subject to change due to weather conditions and material availability.

Lane Restrictions (Traffic will be reduced to one lane during these times):

Monday - Thursday Night:

Eastbound (EB): 7pm - 4am | Westbound (WB): 7pm - 6am

Friday Night:

Eastbound (EB): 7pm - 5am | Westbound (WB): 10:30pm - 8am (for 7/18 & 7/25 only)

Saturday Night:

Eastbound (EB): 6pm - 7am | Westbound (WB): 8pm - 9am

Sunday Night:

Eastbound (EB): 6pm - 7am | Westbound (WB): 8pm - 9am

CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES & TRAFFIC IMPACTS

07/17 - 07/30
- Road striping and rumble strip operations will require closures of two lanes in both eastbound and westbound directions starting as early as 7pm
- All lanes remain open the nights of 07/23 and 07/24 due to the holiday.
- No westbound lane closures until 10:30pm Friday nights only (7/18 & 7/25)
End of July:
- Project will be substantially complete.

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) will resurface I-80, from Lower Parleys Canyon to SR-65 (exit 134). The project objectives are aimed at preserving the life of the road. This paving process will not only help increase the longevity of the road but also address roadway structural integrity and enhance motorist safety by providing a smoother, more durable road surface. The on/off ramps along the route will also be resurfaced. Additional work includes variable drainage enhancements, barrier upgrades, and updated roadside signage and road surface striping.
