The Apex Economic Development department is working with local businesses to create in-store and online specials, contests, discounts and events, all aimed at boosting local engagement for the day. The goal is to bring customers into Apex for a day of shopping, dining and exploring local.
Staff is working to compile the list of specials, and will release the full list of participating businesses in mid-November. Stay tuned...

Utility Billing Updates
The town continues to recover from a major disruption to our utility billing process after the July cybersecurity incident. Below are a few updates on the current status of utility billing.
Billing Schedule
Our typical process is to issue utility bills every month, at the same time each month (around the 1st of the month for cycle 1, and the 15th for cycle 2). This timing was disrupted significantly while staff has worked to rebuild our utility billing process. As a result, customers are seeing inconsistent timing with receiving bills. We're grateful for your patience as we get a little closer each month to returning to the regular billing schedule.
Customer Service Wait Times
We know that customers are experiencing long hold times when calling customer service, due to the current volume of calls. Town staff is working diligently to answer incoming calls, while also working through a long list of voicemail messages to return. Each conversation takes time, and we want to be sure that every customer receives the attention needed to understand the details of their utility bill.
Third Party Review
For an additional level of review and transparency around utility billing, the town is in the process of hiring a third party to analyze all of our recent billing data. In the meantime, we will continue producing monthly utility bills, using all of our current data about usage and payments.
No Disconnections or Late Payment Penalties
The town will not apply penalties or disconnect accounts due to nonpayment, while we are working to reconcile all utility billing issues.

Collection Tips for Peak Leaf Season
Fall is a busy season for our vacuum trucks, as piles of leaves are raked to the curb. Apex yard waste collection crews work hard to balance the increased workload during peak leaf season. We do our best to stay on schedule, running as early and as late as safety allows.
Here are a few ways you can help ensure efficient collection:
- Do not place leaves in bags or your trash cart. Rake to the curb, where our vacuum trucks will collect.
- Keep large sticks and branches separate from smaller yard waste, as this could damage the vacuum and delay collection.
- Make sure that your yard waste is easy to access - not covered by vehicles or other items on the curb.
- Keep yard waste out of our stormwater system by placing 10 feet or more away from storm drains.
- Our trucks cannot collect dirt, mulch, or rocks. These items damage our trucks and can lead to “dusting” streets while collecting.

Election Day Voting
Election Day is November 5th, when voters must visit their assigned precinct location to vote.
Please note - while all Wake County voters could visit the Community Center during early voting, that location only serves one precinct on Election Day. If you're unsure of your polling place, this webpage can help.

Apex Peakway Southwest Connector Construction Now Underway
Construction has begun on the Apex Peakway Southwest Connector, a road project designed to enhance mobility and connectivity by building a bridge that connects a long-standing gap in the town’s main loop.
The portion of Apex Peakway from S. Salem Street to Towhee Drive will be closed beginning November 11th (this closure was originally scheduled for November 4th). The closure will last for the first 18-24 months of the project. Salem Street itself will remain open, except for occasional closures managed with flagging to accommodate bridge construction.
Designed for both motorists and pedestrians, this project aims to ease traffic flow, improve safety, and provide smoother commutes across town. Find more detail about this project at www.apexnc.org/peakway.

Saunders Lot Reconstruction Begins January 2025
Starting in January 2025, the Saunders Parking Lot in downtown Apex will undergo a major reconstruction project, designed to increase the amount of public parking in the heart of downtown. This lot, located across from the police station on Saunders Street, will be expanded from 240 parking spaces to 392 spaces (an increase of 152 parking spaces!)
During reconstruction, portions of the Saunders Lot will be closed in three different phases. This temporary decrease in available parking in the Saunders Lot may impact a regular visitor’s go-to parking spot. But there are so many parking options Beyond the Lot!
Learn more about the Saunders Lot project, and new initiatives planned to ease the impact of this project on downtown parking at www.apexnc.org/lot.
