Progress Continues

This Women’s History Month, we celebrate the resilience, leadership, and determination that continue to shape our community for the better. With San Antonio Ready to Work (RTW), those qualities come to life every day through the dedication of our participants, the guidance of our prime partners, and the commitment of our employers. Together, we are expanding access to opportunity while creating pathways that empower individuals and strengthen families across San Antonio.
The impact is clear. More than 4,300 participants have transitioned into better-paying, in-demand careers, and 60% of those who complete training secured employment within six months. These outcomes reflect not only the hard work of each participant, but also the collaboration and belief shared by our entire City when the decision was made to invest in their success.
As we look ahead, let’s keep this momentum going by lifting one another up, continuing to open doors, and sharing the story so even more San Antonians can thrive.

Melicia Cline Miles - Starting a New Chapter
As a single mother of three, Melicia Cline Miles story highlights the life-changing impact of the Ready to Work program. While at Hallmark University, Melicia was able to access dedicated case management and support services that helped her stay on track and succeed.

“As a single mother of three," Melicia said, "going back to school felt overwhelming. SA Ready to Work helped me access the support and resources I needed to stay focused and keep pushing even when life got heavy. They were there during school and after, which made graduating possible for me.”
Today, Melicia has achieved her goal, securing her dream role as a Psych ICU Registered Nurse with Methodist Healthcare. “Now I’ve earned my degree and secured my dream role," she added. "I’m proud to close my bartending chapter and step into the career I’ve worked so hard for.”
Now in a full-time job that has steady pay and benefits, Melicia is showing how the program is helping families in our San Antonio thrive.

Quicker Job Placements
![Graphic with a cartoon person holding a diploma or certifican wearing a cap and gown with the words]()
This month, the San Antonio Ready to Work Program (RTW) has reached 60% of participants earning and in-demand job within six months of finishing their training or education. The average annual salary increase in that new job is more than $33,700. Whenever anyone in the program is placed into an in-demand job it is a testament to the participant's hard work, the program's prime partners and coaches, and the employers that believe in these participants.

A Healthcare Hiring Fair
San Antonio Ready to Work participant Sierra Chatman arrived at the Ready to Work Healthcare Hiring Fair excited to meet face-to-face with employers seeking candidates just like her. She was one of nearly 120 registered participants who attended the event to meet face-to-face with hiring managers representing five healthcare organizations (University Health, Christus Health, UT Health, CommuniCare and Touchstone Communities).
Fresh off completing a six-month medical assistant program at Goodwill San Antonio, Chatman entered the room with her resume in hand and a desire to begin her career.

“I'm super excited to start that journey,” Chatman said.
Now that she has finished her classes, Chatman said she is grateful that the Ready to Work program continues to support her through events like the hiring fair.
“Without this program it is hard to find a job,” Chatman added, “but with the Ready to Work program it's easier and it's helpful.”
Employers also benefit from partnering with Ready to Work. Britnee Solis, a recruiter with Christus Health, attended the fair to fill in-demand roles with talent that fits the organization’s mission.
“I would say that the need is extreme,” Solis said, “These are all support positions that actually keep our hospital running and moving smoothly.”
The hiring fair is just one way that Ready to Work provides support beyond training and education. It’s also demonstrates how partnerships among the program, training partners and local employers are helping strengthen our city’s workforce.
