Special Events Safety Tips

Motorists and Pedestrians

  • Plan ahead.
  • Stay alert and remain cautious.
  • Lookout for each other.
  • Use pedestrian crossings. 
  • Obey the signs.

June 20: Chris Stapleton Fan Festival 

The event begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 11 p.m. 

Closures will begin at 9 a.m. and will include Mint Street between Morehead Street and 1st Street, Brooklyn Village Avenue between Church Street and Mint Street, and Graham Street between Mint Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Streets will reopen at 11:30 p.m. 

Event organizers expect 55,000 participants.

June 20: 7th Annual Juneteenth Celebration 

The event begins at 2 p.m. and ends at 6 p.m. 

Closures will begin at 7 a.m. and will include Senior Drive between LaSalle Street and Dr Webber Avenue. Streets will reopen at 9 p.m. 

Event organizers expect 1,000 participants. 


 

June 20-21: 29th Annual Juneteenth Festival of the Carolinas  

The event begins at 12 p.m. on June 20 and ends at 9 p.m. on June 21. 

Closures will begin at 7 a.m. on June 20 and will include Thomas Street between Central Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue between Pecan Avenue and The Plaza. Streets will reopen at 10 p.m. on June 21. 

Event organizers expect 2,500 participants.

June 27: Queen City Carnival Parade 

Closures will begin at 9 a.m. for Brevard Street between 9th Street and 11th Street. The event begins at 12 p.m. on Brevard Street between 9th and 10th Street. Participants will travel to 7th Street and conclude at Victoria Yards. All streets will reopen by 1:30 p.m. 

Event organizers expect 300 participants.

June 27: Rise Above 5K 

The event begins at 8 a.m. on Remus Road. Participants will travel on Brookhill Road, Village Court, Tremont Avenue, Toomey Avenue, Wilmore Drive, Spruce Street, Wood Dale Terrace, Worthington Avenue, S Tryon Street, Basin Street, and conclude on Remus Road.  

Event organizers expect 150 participants.

June 27: Summer Soul Cultural Festival 

The event begins at 11 a.m. and ends at 10:30 p.m. 

Closures will begin at 7 a.m. and will include Tryon Street between Trade Street and 6th Street. Streets will reopen at 11:30 p.m. 

Event organizers expect 5,000 participants.

June 28: Citizens for Life Prayer March 

The event begins at 6 p.m. at Marshall Park. Participants will travel on Martin Luther King Jr Boulevard, Caldwell Street, 3rd Street and conclude at Marshall Park.  

Event organizers expect 500 participants.

July 4: Four on the Fourth 

The event begins at 7:30 a.m. on Carnegie Boulevard. Participants will travel on Barclay Downs Drive, Ferncliff Road, Sharon Road, Colony Road, Roxborough Road, Rexford Road, Coca Cola Plaza, and conclude at Symphony Park.  

Event organizers expect 1,200 participants.

July 4: Coulwood Annual 4th of July Parade 

The event begins at 9 a.m. on Kentberry Drive. Participants will travel on Kentberry Drive, Coulwood Drive, and conclude on Cathey Road.  

Event organizers expect 500 participants.
